This is a complete list of all "active" generic top level domain name extensions. Generic Top-Level Domains (gTLDs)

  • *.aero - (Introduced: 2002) The .aero domain is reserved for companies, organizations, associations, government agencies, and individuals in aviation and such related industries.

 

  • *.asia - (Introduced: 2006) The .asia domain is a regional domain for companies, organisations, and individuals based in the region of Asia, Australia, and the Pacific.

 

  • *.biz - (Introduced: 2001) The .biz domain is intended for domains to be used by businesses.

 

  • *.cat - (Introduced: 2005) The .cat domain is to be used to highlight Catalan language and culture.

 

  • *.com - (Introduced: 1985) The .com domain has no formal restrictions on who can register. Was intended to designate commercial entities.

 

  • *.coop - (Introduced: 2002) The .coop domain is intended for the use of cooperatives, and is restricted to cooperatives only. 

 

  • *.edu - (Introduced: 1985) The .edu domain is for educational institutions, mostly for those in the USA.

 

  • *.gov - (Introduced: 1985) The .gov domain is used by government entities in the United States and is strictly restricted.

 

  • *.info - (Introduced: 2001) The .info domain is intended for informative websites, it is not restricted.

 

  • *.int - (Introduced: 1988) The .int domain is reserved for international treaty-based organizations. (Ex: United Nations)

 

  • *.jobs - (Introduced: 2005) The .int domain is intended for employment\human resource websites. It is restricted to employment-related sites.

 

  • *.mil - (Introduced: 1985) The .mil domain is intended and restricted to the United States Department of Defense and its subsidiary organizations.

 

  • *.mobi - (Introduced: 2005) The .mobi domain is intended for delivering the Internet to mobile devices.

 

  • *.museum - (Introduced: 2001) The .museums domain is used exclusively by museums, museum associations, and individual members of the museum profession, as these groups are defined by the International Council of Museums.

 

  • *.name - (Introduced: 2001) The .name domain is intended for the use of individuals' real names, nicknames, screen names, or other personal names.

 

  • *.net - (Introduced: 1985) The .net domain has no formal restrictions on who can register. Was intended for network oriented entities.

 

  • *.org - (Introduced: 1985) The .org domain has no formal restrictions on who can register. Originally intended for use by organizations that did not meet the requirements for other gTLDs.

 

  • *.pro - (Introduced: 2001) The .pro domain is used to signal to web visitors that the website owner is a professional with valid credentials.

 

  • *.tel - (Introduced: 2005) The .tel domain is restricted to internet communication services, and provides a supplement to the traditional numeric namespace for telecommunication services.

 

  • *.travel - (Introduced: 2005) The .travel domain is restricted to the use of travel agents, airlines, bed and breakfast operators, tourism bureaus, and others in the travel industry.
